Importing Frames from Figma

You can start your Polymet project by bringing in your existing Figma designs.

1 – Launch the import

You can open the plugin from either the Figma plugin website or Polymet projects page by clicking Import from Figma. This will open our official plugin page in Figma.

3 – Authenticate your account

To connect your Figma account with Polymet:

  • Click Go to Polymet Auth page in the plugin.
  • Copy the authentication code.
  • Paste the code into the plugin to complete the connection.

4 – Select frames to import

Now you can select up to 8 frames in your Figma file. Once selected, our plugin will automatically capture the design information.

You can:

  • Create a new Polymet project using the imported frames.
  • Insert them into an existing project as design inputs.
  • Add extra prompt details if you want Polymet to enhance the design during import (e.g., “Make this layout more modern with better spacing and sharper typography”, “this is an AI chat agent, so take into consideration the chat experience”, “main customer target of this product is K12 school teachers”, etc.)

5 - Happy Designing!

The generation will start, and you can easily send prompts to refine the imported designs, share with your stakeholders, or export the generated React code!

Exporting Designs from Polymet to Figma

Once your design or prototype is ready in Polymet, you might want to bring it back into Figma for any reason.

1 – Select Your Prototype

In any project, open the prototype you’d like to export.

2 – Click Export to Figma

At the top right of the screen, click the Export button and choose Export to Figma. Polymet will generate a unique Figma Export ID for you.

3 – Use the Plugin to Import

Go back to the Polymet Figma plugin and paste the Export ID into the plugin. This will import your full design from Polymet directly into Figma.

Tips

  • For best results, make sure your selected Figma frames are clean and labeled. This helps Polymet understand your design better.
  • If you’re starting a brand-new project, importing your initial layout from Figma is a great way to speed up early ideation.
  • You can mix imported frames with Polymet-generated components and pages inside the same project.
  • When you provide information to our model about your design preferences, product information, component selection, and user experience details inside enhanced prompts, it works better.
